Kristina Zelinska poses with her chin resting on her right fist and her left hand holding her violin. Her knees are crossed and she is leaning her right elbow on her knee.

Tutor: Kristina Zelinska

Kristina moved to Wellington to join NZSO’s first violin section in 2004. Originally coming from Ukraine, Kristina started her professional music journey at the very young age in Kyiv Music School, which gives a unique opportunity for kids to study music extensively alongside regular curriculum at the same institution. After graduating, she continued her studies at Tchaikovsky Conservatory, which was also a patron of Kyiv School of Music at that time.

While studying at the Conservatory, Kristina was appointed as principal first violin at the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, and regularly performed with the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra, touring internationally throughout Europe and Asia. Kristina followed her family move to New Zealand, and after hearing all about Jan Tawroszewicz, decided to continue her studies at the University of Canterbury with Jan, gaining her BMus with First Class Honours.

Being fortunate to go through extensive music education and having the most inspirational teachers all through her life, Kristina always wanted to share the knowledge. She discovered a new passion in teaching about decade ago, and has built up a big class of students, despite NZSO’s busy performing schedule. Kristina teaches students of all levels and ages from beginner to Diploma level, inspiring them with life performances and sharing her pedagogical knowledge, as well as mentoring them through their overall musical studies. She is fortunate to be part of the music scene in New Zealand and to contribute to music education in Aotearoa.
