Headmaster's Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to Scots College. We are proudly a co-educational, Presbyterian, IB World School with a history of over 100 years. We are both a day and a boarding school, and cater for students from Year 1 to Year 13.

Our College motto is "Virtutem Paret Doctrina" - let education build all-round character. Students are provided with opportunities in many areas to develop their potential across academia, sport, culture, service, and spirituality. We provide an individualised education where every student is known and their educational needs catered for by a team of passionate teaching staff who deliver a world class education.

We are proud of the young individuals we develop during their time at the College. Our strong academic programme, coupled with the our leadership programme and co-curricular opportunities, give our students the opportunity to truly develop their potential and build character. Students are expected to give their best in all they do, have sound values, and give back to their communities. Success is celebrated and encouraged. Expectations are high and our students excel in a wide variety of areas.

As an independent Presbyterian Years 1-13 day and boarding school, which offers both NCEA and International Baccalaureate, Scots is unique. Our College comprises of three schools within one College: Junior School (Years 1-6), Middle School (Years 7-10), and Senior School (Years 11-13). Independent education values the individual and values choice. The International Baccalaureate qualification shows our commitment to the creation of global citizens.

Scots recognises the impact on education in a world where technology continues to disrupt our workforce, fundamentally changing the skills students will need after College. Our focus is to equip students with the skills they need to thrive now and in their futures, to learn. For life. To continue to provide a future-focussed educational environment, we have a Year 11 curriculum which focusses less on assessment and more on learning skills essential for a students future.

Students at Scots are supported by many excellent facilities and a dedicated staff. Our teachers provide students with a nurturing and caring environment where each student’s needs are catered for. Our campus offers students with specialist sports facilities; well-equipped science, technology, music, and arts resources; and flexible learning environments. Over the next five years, the campus will be growing with the introduction of more classrooms, STEM resources, and flexible learning areas.

We are proudly an internationally minded school. Based in the nation’s capital, we have access to many amenities and opportunities that are not available elsewhere to enrich student experiences. We are a diverse College which welcomes students from around the globe. Such international students also enrich our learning environment.

At Scots, each student can achieve their potential. We look forward to working with you and your child to achieve this.
