Scots College Celebrates Outstanding Winter Tournament Week
Scots College students have enjoyed a highly successful Winter Tournament Week, producing outstanding performances and representing the College with pride across New Zealand.
Competing in national and regional tournaments throughout the country, our teams demonstrated skill, determination, resilience, and sportsmanship, achieving impressive results across a range of sports.
Leading the way was our Boys 1st XI Football team, who came incredibly close to defending their national title. After another exceptional campaign, the team finished runners-up at the National Championships following a penalty shootout in the final. To finish second in New Zealand is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the quality and dedication of this group.
Our Girls 1st XI Football team finished 19th at their tournament, while our Underwater Hockey team placed 10th at the National Championships. Congratulations to Year 12 student Seth, who was named in the Tournament Team, recognising him as one of the competition's standout performers.
In netball, our Premier Netball team delivered another strong campaign, finishing as runners-up at the Lower North Island Secondary Schools Tournament after winning nine out of their ten games. Their performance secured qualification for the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Championships in October, where they will compete among just 16 schools from across the country.
The week also marked a historic milestone for Scots College basketball. Our Premier Girls Basketball team finished fifth at the Regional Championships and, for the first time in the programme's history, qualified for the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Championships in October. They will join 17 other schools from around New Zealand at the national tournament. This achievement highlights the continued growth and success of girls' basketball at Scots.
Our Boys Basketball team also competed strongly, finishing 13th in their regional tournament.
On the hockey turf, both premier teams produced excellent results. The Premier Girls Hockey team finished an outstanding third overall, while the Premier Boys Hockey team secured fifth place, continuing the strong tradition of hockey excellence at Scots College.
In rugby, our Under 15 team finished fifth out of 20 teams at the Hurricanes Tournament, an excellent result in a highly competitive field. Our Badminton team also competed at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships, finishing 16th nationally.
While the results were impressive, Winter Tournament Week is about much more than placings. These tournaments provide students with opportunities to challenge themselves, compete at a high level, build resilience, strengthen friendships, and create lasting memories alongside their teammates.
The success of the week would not have been possible without the commitment and support of many people across the College community. We extend our sincere thanks to our coaches, managers, Directors, staff, and volunteers who gave their time throughout the week, as well as those back at the College who supported students and staff by covering classes and ensuring everything continued to run smoothly.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented Scots College throughout Winter Tournament Week. Their conduct, determination and commitment reflected the values of our community both on and off the field.
It was a fantastic week for Scots College, with much to celebrate and two teams now looking ahead to the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Championships in October.
