Boarding Options

At Scots College, we understand that every family is different. That's why Gibb House offers a range of boarding options designed to support students and fit the needs of modern families.

Whether you're looking for a full boarding experience, the convenience of weekday boarding, or occasional overnight stays during a busy term, our boarding options provide students in Years 9–13 with a welcoming home away from home while remaining fully connected to school life.

Seven-Day Boarding

Seven-day boarding offers students the full boarding experience and is ideal for families living outside the Wellington region or overseas.

Students live at Gibb House throughout the school week and weekends, becoming part of a supportive and close-knit community. Boarders enjoy easy access to academic support, co-curricular opportunities, and a wide range of weekend activities while developing independence and lifelong friendships.

Seven-day boarding provides a stable and structured environment where students can focus on their learning, pursue their interests, and make the most of everything Scots College has to offer.

Five-Day Boarding

Five-day boarding is a popular option for families who live within the wider Wellington region and want the convenience of boarding during the school week while remaining at home on weekends.

Students stay at Gibb House from Monday to Friday and return home each weekend, giving them the best of both worlds: the benefits of boarding alongside regular family time.

Five-day boarding can make a significant difference to a student's school experience by removing the pressures of daily travel and creating more opportunities to participate fully in College life.

Benefits of five-day boarding include:

  • No daily commute or early morning travel for training sessions, rehearsals, and other commitments
  • More time and energy to participate in sport, music, cultural activities, and leadership opportunities
  • A practical solution for families balancing work commitments, long commutes, or multiple children's schedules
  • Greater flexibility to make the most of opportunities before and after school
“Without boarding, I would not be in the sports teams I am in. I simply could not get to the early morning trainings.”
— Bruno, Year 9

Flexible Boarding

Flexible boarding provides occasional overnight stays for day students who would benefit from the convenience of staying at Gibb House for one or two nights during the term.

This option is ideal for students who have:

  • Early morning sports fixtures, trainings, or tournaments
  • Busy assessment or examination periods
  • Rehearsals, performances, or other co-curricular commitments
  • Family circumstances that make an overnight stay helpful

Students are welcomed into the Gibb House community, giving them the opportunity to experience boarding life while enjoying the support and routines of the boarding environment.

Flexible boarding stays are subject to availability and must be arranged in advance with the Boarding Team.
