Hockey
Scots College has enjoyed many recent successes in hockey, reflecting the dedication of players, coaches, and our supporters. We also host the Scots College Hockey Academy, open to players from any school in Years 5–13.
Hockey at Scots College is flourishing, with boys and girls teams competing across the Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools in College Sport leagues, tournaments, and inter-school fixtures. The 2025 season marked significant growth, with Scots fielding its first-ever 2nd XI Girls team, completing a full roster of competitive teams and bringing the club total up to 110 students, supported by an exceptional group of dedicated coaches and managers.
Recent notable individual achievements include Zachary Gianotti being named for the U18 Future Black Sticks in 2025, with Hugo Maitland and Foy Kerkin being selected for the U18 Future Black Sticks in 2024. In 2025, Jacob Obermaier was selected for the U18 NZ Indoor Hockey Team, which competed in South Africa. Many other players have also been named to Wellington Representative teams, including 12 players in 2025.
Scots College Hockey Academy
The Scots College Hockey Academy offers an engaging and inclusive pathway for players from across Wellington of all ages and abilities to build confidence, enhance their technical skills, and develop a genuine passion for the game. Our player-centred programme focusses on the core skills required for the modern, high-speed nature of hockey, with an emphasis on improving both the quality and consistency of performance.
Delivering professional, small-group coaching, the Academy supports players in Year 5 to Year 13 from any school across the Wellington region, providing a high-quality training environment tailored to individual development. Our aim is to build strong foundations that enable players to progress with confidence throughout their hockey journey.
At the heart of the Academy is a commitment to developing capable, consistent, and resilient athletes, preparing them for the next level – whether that be school teams, or representative opportunities. We are dedicated to ensuring every player feels supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.
