Underwater Hockey
Underwater hockey is a fast-paced sport played at the bottom of a swimming pool, where two teams of six players manoeuvre a puck into the opposing team's goal using small sticks.
Scots College’s underwater hockey teams are thriving, with increasing opportunities to compete at regional tournaments and inter-school competitions in Wellington. The latest season has been especially exciting, showcasing the growth and dedication of our athletes.
In the 2025 season, we debuted our first ever girls team at the Underwater Hockey National Championships in Kilbirnie. The team was comprised of mostly Year 9 and Year 10 students competing in a senior league, and they are looking forward to building up their skills in the next few years.
In 2024, the Junior Open team achieved an impressive third-place finish at the Centrals Underwater Hockey Tournament, securing qualification for the National Tournament, and three of our Year 10 students were selected for the regional B Under 18 side. The previous year, the team also made it to Nationals, competing in Tauranga and finishing 7th after an intense campaign.
We are proud to be led by our coach, Mitchell Thomas-Beck, whose dedication and expertise have been instrumental to the team's success.
