2010 Life Saving

A small but keen group of students gathered early at the pool once a week during term one to brush up on their Life Saving Skills. Seb Newman-Dennis, Finn Winsborough Smith and James McLean who have been involved in Life Saving since Y9,  put the Bronze level boys through their paces both in the water and during lunch time theory sessions and all three successfully passed their Instructors Awards. We invited the president of the Royal life Saving Society NZ came to Scots during the term for a day’s training seminar to  ensure we were maintaining high standards and his input was invaluable.

Captains of Life Saving Hugo and Jack Stephens, along with fellow Y13 students Vikesh Gupta, Jason Hart and Chris Flaus had their work cut out preparing for the demanding Distinction Award and were fortunate to be able to do extra training sessions under the watchful eye of Examiner Emma Harris.  In term two when their theory results finally came through, they were all relieved to have passed this final step – a just reward for the 5 years of commitment they have given to Life Saving at Scots.
