Cricket 2009

1st XI

Scots College 1st XI has shown that it is a very sharp outfit so far this year with a lot of great individual performances.  Players of note this season have been abrasive leading wicket taker Matthew Kelleher, intelligent all rounders Alex Roberts-Gray and Andrew Benham and chirpy Vice-Captain Nick Wellwood.  All boys are senior players in the side and have ably led this young side.  Although the side has played some outstanding cricket this season the most pleasing aspect has been the improvement in attitude.

This team played in the Junior B grade for 2009 season and competed in the Wellington Regional NZCT Knockout Tournament from 7th to 10th December.

10B Cricket

The cricket season is in two paths which began at February and will end in early December where the team will hopefully make the final against Rongotai.  To do this the team will have to beat Wellington College in a virtual semi-final as they are currently third on the table.  In the first half of the season, the team played consistently well and only dropped one game against Rongotai.  The highlight was a convincing win over HIBS2 where we battled first and made 109 with Rober Cartwright making a quick fire 34.  We then bowled out HIBs for 91 with all the bowlers taking wicketsat key moments.  At the end of the summer the team was 2nd on the table.

The team resumed the season during November and again lost to Rongotai before bouncing back to form with a strong win over Upper Hutt.  Here the stand out performer was Jon Tweed who stuck a powerful 36 in a total of 80 before taking 5 wickets for 7 runs as Upper Hutt were dismissed for 41.  To make the final the team will have to improve the number of partnerships when batting and look to bat out the 40 overs.  The strength is in the field where they have the ability to bowl teams out.
