17-33 loss |
2nd XV vs Naenae College |
Captain’s Comments: This was always going to be a physical contest and Scots certainly didn’t take a backward step in the early exchanges. Our scrum was once again very strong, and Huang did very well to pinch a couple of tight-heads in the first half. While we enjoyed plenty of possession and territory in the first half, turnovers cost us dearly and Naenae were able to capitalise with some brilliant running from their outside backs. Johnstone’s strength around the fringes eventually got him over the line. However, we went into the break 28-5 down. Impact off the bench came in the form of Felipe the rampaging Chilean bull who proved a real handful at number 8 in the second half. With tries to Muollo and the hard-running Hodge in the second half, Scots managed to salvage some self-respect, finishing the game in positive fashion. Scorers: Tries: Johnstone, Muollo, Hodge Conversions: Johnstone (1) |

U65 vs Wellington College |
Manager’s Comments: This game was the most exciting to date and really had the spectators on the edge of their seats. The first try, against the run of play, was to Col but Scots soon struck back with Ellery Waterson scoring. Some brave scrum work meant that our forwards were providing great ball to the backs and we made the most of this scoring again by half-time. Unfortunately Wellington College scored a runaway try and made the conversion. Our tackling left a little to be desired but apart from that it was a good solid first half; the score at half-time was 12-10 to Coll. Whatever pearls of wisdom Mr White imparted at half time obviously did the trick the boys came out in the second half with renewed vigour with Elih Karl snatching the ball whenever he could, ably supported by Ellery Watterson and Max Zorn. The scrums were outstanding and there was some good old fashioned rucking from the forwards. Tom Saxton and Tom Rowlands gave the scrums everything they had. With lots of vocal support and bitten fingernails Elih broke through the defence to run 50 metres to score Ollie McMahon converted. With a strong defensive effort we managed to keep out the Wellington College team, not letting them score again and winning the game 17-12. A great second half with everyone playing well and even some decent tackles made. Scorers: Tries: Waterson, Rowlands, Karl; Con: McMahon |
