School life for Secondary boys

Scots College is a leader among secondary schools for the quality of its extra-curricular programme. All students are encouraged to play sport for the College, and with many codes to choose from, most find a sport they enjoy. In addition, the College offers students the chance to participate in debating, chess, musical groups, drama groups among others. Students are encouraged to try new activities, learn new skills and develop as teams and individuals.

A wide range of subjects is available to secondary school students including French and Japanese, art and music, graphics and technology, as well as core curriculum subjects.

All courses lead to national qualifications and tertiary education. There is an expectation that boys will pass national examinations and this leads to School Certificate pass rates of approximately 88% and over 80% of University Bursary candidates achieving an A or B bursary. The more able students are encouraged to enter academic competition for scholarship exams such as NZEST.

In addition to the usual range of classroom and laboratory facilities there is a specialist arts centre, graphics suite and music centre. The Scots College Information Centre comprises the Library and the Computer Labs.  As well we provide a Careers Centre, Common rooms for senior boys and a tiered Lecture Theatre. There is also a gymnasium, further lecture rooms.
