Year 3 students' creativity shine in Picture Books
Y3 and Y7 work together to produce online picture books
Years 1, 2 and 3 boys were involved in a literature-based unit of inquiry last term.
The central idea for the How We Express Ourselves unit was, ‘Imagination can be expressed through different perspectives.’ It proved to be a very valuable unit as the boys delved into many wonderful picture books and inquired into how the authors and illustrators used imagination and perspective in their writing. The boys also gained first-hand ideas and experiences from successful people in this field; Joy Cowley (writer), Fifi Colston (writer and illustrator) and Julie Smart (Publisher for Scholastic NZ) came to visit our school.
Narrative writing was the genre focus for this unit and all boys were given the opportunity to write their own picture book. The Year 3 boys worked with a Year 7 class to present their narrative stories on the computer flip books. We would like to thank Mr Hinds and Year 7 boys for the wonderful ideas, fantastic knowledge of ICT and patience working with us!
