Scots College Hockey Club Partnership AnnouncedIt gives me great pleasure to formally announce that the Scots College Hockey Club have formed a partnership with Wellington Hockey to provide coaching and player development programmes. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two hockey clubs outlining the partnership, where Wellington Hockey will provide Scots College with a Director of Hockey who will coach the 1st XI, lead the delivery of the Year 7 and 8 programme, lead the delivery of an academy programme, and provide training for Scots College hockey coaches.
Daan Jongejan will take over from Brent Miskimmin as 1st XI coach and will be employed in the role of Coach Officer for Wellington Hockey. As a player, Daan has represented Holland in two Dutch national squads (U16 and U18) and played in several international competitions. As a coach, he has lead the delivery of representative programmes across numerous clubs and is currently the head coach and trainer of four representative squads. Daan holds a Degree in Sport Management and a MBO (Higher Vocational Education) sports instructor degree.
Hemant Lala has been employed in the role of Performance Coach for Wellington Hockey and will also work with Daan in support of the Scots College Hockey programme
Hemant joins Wellington Hockey following ten years working at Hockey NZ. A former Wellington (and Capital) representative player, Hemant was employed by the Association as a Coach Development Officer from 2007 – 2009 and was the Capital Cobras coach in 2015. In other roles Hemant has led the Auckland Hockey performance programme and established his own specialist coaching company (Coaching Plus 1 limited) in 2011.
This is a very exciting development for the future of hockey at Scots College and it has been a pleasure working with Trafford Wilson (CEO, Wellington Hockey) and Dane Lett (HP Manager, Wellington Hockey) and Brent Miskimmin in putting this partnership together.
I would like to make a special mention of thanks to Brent Miskimmin who played a key role in this process and for stepping in to coach the 1st XI while the appointments were being made. Brent has made a huge contribution to Scots College Hockey over the years and our players have been very fortunate to benefit from his wealth of experience and knowledge.
