How many games have we played against Wellington Coll 1st XV anyway?
Several Old Boys queried the accuracy of the statement made after the weekend's historic victory over the Wellington College 1st XV that the two teams had only met twice before.
Our super records sleuth, College Archivist Paddianne Neely, set to work and discovered the following:
Since World War II, Scots and Wellington College 1st XV's played pre-season friendlies in both 1964 and 1972. Wellington College won both.
The teams then met in the College Sport Premier Grade in the years 1985-1988. The record was:
1985 - drawn game 6-all
1986 - Wellington College wins 13-8
1987 - Wellington College wins 20-3
1988 - Wellington College wins 34-9
Until this year Scots College did not play Wellington College again because the Scots 1st XV did not play in the Premier Grade.
In 2010 Scots College 1st XV had it's first ever victory over the Wellington College 1st XV 19-17. This is a sign of the growing depth of sporting talent now playing for Scots College in all sporting codes. Scots has had a group of talented runners for several years.
