Cocktail Party to celebrate Dick Evans' induction into Garden of Honour
SCOBA will be hosting a celebratory cocktail party for Old Boys and their partners at 5.45 p.m. at the Wellington Club on Friday 20 August in recognition of iconic Old Boy, Dick Evans.
Dick was the grandfather of the "dress up and have a party" brigade at the Wellington 7's. He was Mr Wellington Rugby for most of the 60's, 70's and 80's and seemed to be at the forefront of every event involving Wellington's representative rugby teams during those decades, playing his trumpet and marching in his brightly coloured Wellington colours suit.
Dick was also a stalwart Old Boy who gave unstintingly of his time and energy to support and promote Scots College and the Old Boys Association.
The criteria for induction to the Garden of Honour are as follows:
- to recognise those who have given a significantly high level of service to the College
- open to all who have participated in College life
- service must be of an exemplary nature with a firm foundation of merit
- not only to recognise length of service or benefaction, but one that has reached a deserving and high level of prolonged significance
- must have formally ended their connection with the College
In the words of the selection panel "...We all consider that his [Dick's] service to the College particularly from his involvement as President of SCOBA in 1961-1963 and leading through to his major efforts in raising the funds for the Chapel/Assembly Hall is worthy of such recognition, having regard to his wider commitment to the College before moving to Auckland. As quoted in The Story of Scots "his work and inspiration were in evidence throughout the whole project and through his efforts a handsome organ was installed in the chapel.
Dick and his wife Pam are being brought to Wellington from their home in Auckland as the guests of the Old Boys Association and will catch up with old friends while they're in town.
The evening will be made even more special through the involvement of another Old Boy who's identity will remain secret until the evening.
Come one come all to the Wellington Club on Friday 20 August to celebrate.
