Programme Sponsor – Chris Parkin, Parkin Foundation

Chris Parkin

We are privileged to have the support and sponsorship of Chris Parkin, former hotel owner of Museum Art Hotel and avid patron of the arts.   The Parkin Foundation is the lead sponsor of the Artist in Residence Programme and has committed to the programme for 5 years.

A passionate collector, Parkin is very active in the Wellington arts community.  He was a Wellington City Councillor for years, an inaugural trustee of the Affordable Arts Trust and chairman of the St James Theatre Trust and is on the board of Te Papa.  He has provided sponsorship assistance to many organisations including a $100,000 donation to the Wellington Sculpture Trust and in 2013 launched the Parkin Drawing Prize at the Academy of Fine Arts.

For the past nine years Parkin has awarded the Museum Hotel Scholarship, which is given to the top second-year student at Toi Whakaari/New Zealand Drama School.

When he’s not busy on his latest projects, Parkin can be found off the beaten track – usually on a motorbike. A recent trip saw this adventurer heading out to the northwest frontier of Pakistan, near Taleban territory, on his way through to Tibet.
