Year 8 at Capital E National Arts Festival
Passing Wind
Instrument maker and composer Linsey Pollak presented masterful musician ship with infectious humour in an ode to wind instruments and the wonderfully unexpected materials they can be made from; rubber glove bagpipes, a carrot clarinet and haunting watering can saxophone. Everyone wanted to go home and try to make an instrument of their own!
Hear to See
Our boys were encouraged to step out of the modern world and follow a young boy as he leaves his gaming behind to chase the creatures and places he glimpses out of the corner of his eye.
Cleverly combining the artistry of Sydney puppetry company ERTH, stunning lighting and projection, and a haunting score from Richard Nunns, this breath taking theatre left it’s mark especially the pertinent statement form the electronic world to the young audience “We OWN YOU!”
Up Down Boy
This performance also presented our boys with a serious, though at times funny, message. The Myrtle Theatre Company from the UK presented an hour in the life of a mum and her Down syndrome son. Matty is off to college. Will he cope with the challenges ahead of him? Can his mum cope without him? This was a great insight into life in a family a little different from the ordinary.
