Strong Junior Cricket Team wins season final
After a close win over Hutt Valley High School in the semi-final, the Scots College 9a Cricket Team faced Wellington College 2 in the final played at Scots College on Sunday 11 December.
Scots College chose to bat first on a slow wicket and had made a safe start being 60 for 1 after 20 overs. Both McGregor Kereama (33) and Will Hewett (41) contributed to a good partnership before wickets fell steadily as the run rate was increased. The final score of 150 for 9 off 40 was a good effort.
In reply Wellington College 2 was in early trouble as Conor Beleski and Dougie Beatie each took 2 early wickets to leave the visitors at 12 for 4. They never recovered from this as the Scots’ bowlers continually found a good length to put the batting side under pressure. The fielding was also sharp as they took their catches and affected two run outs. In the end Wellington College 2 were dismissed for 74. This capped off an excellent end of season campaign where Scots won the junior 2 grade earning promotion to Intermediate 1 for 2012.
