Scots College Rugby Club Day & Fundraiser

Saturday 30 June 2012 marks the occasion of the Scots College Rugby Club Day & Fundraiser.

Due to extensive off-season ground renovations, the Club Day will be the first opportunity this season where we are able to host four teams at our home ground.

The full game schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Saturday 30 June

  1. U55     10.00am vs Rongotai College (H)
  2. U65     11.30am vs Wellington College (H)
  3. U15     1.00pm vs St Pats Siverstream (H)
  4. 2nd XV  1.00pm vs St Pats Silverstream (A)
  5. 1st XV  2.30pm vs Wellington College (H)

This is a big week for the College.  We welcome back the Wellington College 1st XV to the ground where they suffered their last defeat to a Scots 1st XV in 2010.  We are expecting a large contingent of Scots College Old Boys, parents, and supporters to be present and throughout the day coffee and refreshments will be available to purchase at the ground.

Finally, on a sad note, we will be using Saturday’s Club Day as an opportunity to fundraise for former Scots 1st XV player Seti Tafua and his family.  As the media has reported, Seti was involved in a freak accident while playing for his Northern Suburbs team in Sydney last weekend.  Since sustaining this injury, Seti has had an operation to relieve pressure on his spinal cord.

Seti played for the Scots College 1st XV from 2004-06, a period in which Scots College players and coaching staff implemented a change in culture and attitude in order for the College’s rugby to improve.  Seti was a talisman for the team with his uncompromising play, never say die attitude, commitment to the Scots College rugby community and the College itself.

Seti represented Wellington Rugby Union at U16 and U18 levels whilst at Scots, and after leaving Scots College joined the Poneke Club where he again represented Wellington at U19 and Colts levels.  Seti was a member of the Poneke Premier team and also represented Manu Samoa at the IRB U20 World Cup.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Seti, and the Tafua family during this time.
