Medals for NZSS Athletics Championships 2010
A team of 14 athletes travelled to Hastings last weekend for the national championships for secondary school athletes.
In an exciting senior boys 1500m race with two Scots boys in the final the lead changed several times with eventually Kieron McDonald winning the Gold and Finn Roy ending up in 5th place. Nicholas Pointon won the Silver medal in junior boys 1500m final where he equalled the winner's time but was awarded the silver in a photo finish.
We were not able to repeat the performance of 2009 in Timaru where we won the double for the 1500m but it was very close.
There were excellent performances also from Sam Pinson in setting a new school record in junior High jump with 1.81m leap. Henry Merrit qualifed in the quarter finals of 100m for Juniors and his Triple jump of 10.26m showed promise.
The Junior 4x100m relay team( Ryan Campbell, Sam Cheng, Ben Hannan, Henry Merritt) ran well to come 4th in heat but just missed final.
James Fletcher came 8th in Year9 Road race showing promise for the future in middle distance running.
