Measles Update

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff

Further to the outbreak of measles during August, we have again been contacted by Regional Public Health to advise that there have been five confirmed cases in central Wellington recently.

The best way to protect against measles is to have had two doses of the vaccine. You can check your immunisation records with your doctor. If you are not protected, Regional Public Health advise you to get the free measles vaccine (MMR). Please note that adults born before 1 January 1969 are considered protected from measles.

Any student or adult with measles must stay away from school for up to seven days from the appearance of the rash and until recovery. Unimmunised students, or those with no immunity to measles, who have been in close contact with a measles case during infectious stages may also need to stay away from school for 14 days from their last contact. This requirement is under the Health (Infectious and Notifiable Diseases) Regulations 1966. These exclusions also apply to students taking part in sporting events. Please note the timeframes will depend on advice from the medical officer of health.

If you are at all concerned or have any questions, please contact our College Nurses; Janine Emrys and Sue Hasson on 388 0852.
