Big Century for Barton of Scots College
Scots College batsman Toby Barton was in punishing form for his First XI on Saturday, smashing 173 runs off just 145 balls to help set up a comfortable win for his side against Hutt Valley High School.
Opener Barton hit 22 fours in maintaining a strike rate of 119.3 as part of his side’s imposing total of 327 for 7 in the One-Day Premier Youth semi-final match. Barton batted for all but 1.4 overs of the innings and was the sixth player out with the score on 308. He had terrific support from Ben McMahon (57) whom he put on 131 with for the 4th wicket in 25 overs and from Tom Howard (31) whom he added 102 with for the 5th wicket in 13 overs.
In reply, HVHS battled hard but ultimately fell short on 225 all out. First drop Sunshant Balajee struck 95 off 79 balls and Aaron Curtis 54 off 74. Balajee was run out and Curtis departed, bowled, to make it 189 for 4 in the 34th over, and the run chase couldn’t be maintained.
