Music Groups – Registration Form
We encourage all musicians to be an active member of at least one music group. It teaches musical discipline and encourages friendships alongside preparing for many high-profile events. Contact Mr Patterson if you are unclear which group is appropriate for you or if you want to organise rehearsals for your own group.
Scots College Orchestra
for accomplished instrumentalists with at least three years of playing experience.
Open to musicians in Years 7-13.
Wednesdays 3.40 – 4.50pm. (Followed by Scots Strings rehearsal).
The Scots Orchestra and Strings are the music ensembles for confident instrumentalists who want to develop their skills through playing a wide range of music from film themes to classical. This year we will be hosting our own showcase concert called Consonant Contraptions which will be a chance to showcase all things instrumental such as solos and chamber music groups… along with the orchestras of Scots College and friends.
For instrumentalists to join after initial lessons to give experience of playing in a group. It twists popular, jazz and classical styles together so students are prepared for a number of advanced groups.
Mainly for musicians from Years 7 – 11.
Twisted Notes is the ensemble for developing players that aims to twist together the music of an orchestra and jazz band for an enjoyable mixture of styles. There is a packed schedule of events to prepare for including the new instrumental showcase Consonant Contraptions, Scots Spectacular, and Firecrackers, the new Middle School concert in Term 4.

A very busy and high-energy group that tackles a wide range of music from funk to jazz. This year sees the introduction of a new jazz showcase into the schedule called Funky Ghost Train that the band will host on the spooky date of Friday 13th September at Toitu – The Hub overlooking Kilbirnie Park.

Tuesdays/Thursdays 8.00 – 8.40am.
We tackle a wide range of music that is designed to develop voices to their potential in an enjoyable and supportive environment. It is a four-term commitment that gives many performance opportunities.

It is an energetic group that combines fine singing with movement. This year the Treble Makers are participating in a wide range of concerts including the new vocal showcase Sing Sing Sing, a combined performance of Carmina Burana with Onslow College and the new Middle School concert, Firecrackers. This is full year commitment
Wednesday lunch, Thursday/Friday after schools
The Scots Rock programme is an opportunity for students to form bands and rehearse with some guidance from the music staff. Rehearsals are self-directed and make use of the excellent facilities we have available. In addition, this year we have put in place three opportunities to perform through the #BandQuest concerts which will be run by the Year 11 Music class.
Our new co-ed chamber choir for ambitious and committed for students from years 11 to 13.
Mondays 3.40 - 5pm
The Kairangi Chorale starts in 2020 to provide a full co-ed singing environment for singers wanting to tackle challenging music. The immediate focus will be forming a competitive entry for the Big Sing.
