Students at Scots College come from a range of different cultural backgrounds, and this provides an ideal environment for international students to be supported and ultimately succeed in. This diversity amongst the students ensures differences are respected and international students have positive interactions that not only develop a young man’s confidence, but also assist in improving their English.

An academic programme is carefully developed for each international student that meets their learning needs, and if necessary extra English classes are given to ensure success in mainstream classes.  With the introduction of the International Baccalaurate qualification, there are a variety of pathways to tertiary study that can be offered to international students.

To ensure students remain on track with their personal, social and academic life at Scots College, a comprehensive pastoral care programme is in place based on the Presbyterian values that founded the College.  The House system, where all students are placed in a group and monitored by the House Dean, provides an ideal place to build relationships. This coupled with pastoral care provided by the boarding house and/or carefully vetted homestays makes the transition to NZ life a positive experience.

All international students are encouraged to paticipate in a great range of extra-curricular activites.  These incude weekly inter-house activites and termly international student trips such as skiing and ten pin bowling.  We also have an International Student Club where international students meet weekly for lunch.

Scots College offers a wonderful array of opportunities for international students to ensure they are well equiped to move into tertiary education and a career beyond.
