Jun Lee places first in New Zealand for ICAS Science 2010 Competition
It has been another excellent year with students achieving well at the ICAS Science 2010 competition. We achieved 28 Distinction Awards, 10 High Distinctions, and 42 Credits.
Most notably, Jun Lee was placed first in New Zealand, having scored 43/45.
Shared Harmonies: a show-stopping success!
Queen Margaret College and Scots College joined forces on August 4 to stage a musical extravaganza to raise funds for charity. The concert was held in the Wellington Town Hall, featuring over 400 talented musicians and instrumental groups across all age levels from both Colleges.
Included in the concert line-up was the highly acclaimed Scots College Pipe Band and Queen Margaret College’s award winning Barbershop chorus, The Sweet Margaritas. The concert was a sell out and resulted in the schools raising $5000 for Presbyterian Support Central.
Alasdair Macleod addresses Youth Parliament
Alasdair MacLeod was selected as Annette King’s representative at Youth Parliament 2010. Alasdair, along with a number of participants, had to undergo a rigorous selection process which started with a written essay (for initial selection), followed by a speech delivered at the Beehive, and finally an interview before a panel consisting of Annette King, Grant Robertson and a third judge.
Youth Parliament was held last 6-7 July 2010. Alasdair Macleod delivered his speech on aligning the age of majority, and sat on a Select Committee.
NZ Secondary Students Choir a success at the Kathaumixw
The NZ Secondary Students Choir has had a great result at Kathaumixw being placed in every section they competed in: 1st in the adult mixed and 2nd in folk and youth sections.
Winning a section entitled them to sing a 12 minute section at the awards concert and they received the only standing ovation of the night for their Maori piece and as a result picked up the people’s choice award.
The College is proud of the Choir's achievement, and to have Scots College student Henry Hillind in the choir as well.
Ben Drinkwater in Archery win
Ben Drinkwater (Y12) competed at the NZ National Archery Championships & placed 1st in the field event & 3rd in the cadet male recurve division.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award is a voluntary, non competitive programme of leisure activities for those aged 14 - 25, designed to offer a personal and individual challenge.
Scots College wins Russell McVeagh Wellington Regional Debating Championships
(14 May 2010) The Russell McVeagh Wellington Regional Debating Championships were held last weekend.
Scots College (Henry Hillind, Aaron Rama, James Gavey) won the grand final against Sacred Heart College 3-0, negating the moot "The government should support indigenous languages".
Scots were undefeated in the tournament.
This is the fourth time in five years Scots has won the championship, and Scots has now equalled the record for overall number of wins.
Team captain James Gavey was selected for the Wellington Regional team, and will debate at Nationals.

Tom Ward swims his way to First Place
At the New Zealand Age Group Swimming Championships Tom Ward (Y12) placed 1st in the 16 year olds 50m breaststroke, 1st in the 100m breaststroke and 2nd in the 200m event.
