Co-educational Boarding 2020
Scots College is making a number of changes to better prepare its students for their futures. One of these is that from 2020 Scots will welcome girls into the Senior School beginning with 30 girls from Years 11 to 13. Girls too will be able to board at Scots College and from 2020 20 girls will join Gibb House to board. Like our current boarders they will be a mix of students from New Zealand and overseas. By 2022 we expect to have 150 girls enrolled at the College with 30 girls in boarding.
These girls will be just as much a part of Gibb House and founding members of the future of Gibb House. With this we also place importance on them being secure and well catered for. To this end the girls will be located in the North Wing with its own secure access. They will have a live in member of Staff and a female GAP tutor caring for them. The North wing also has its own kitchen facilities, toilets and showers and a small recreation area on each floor. As places for girls at the College and in boarding are limited we anticipate high demand for these places.
Director of Boarding Gary Henley-Smith and his wife Susanne have previously worked at St Paul’s Collegiate in Hamilton, which also has girls boarding and as such are well versed in how co-educational boarding establishments work.
