Book of the Week: A Micronaut in the Wide World

A Micronaut in the Wide World
The imaginative life and times of Graham Percy
By Gregory O’Brien
Auckland University Press, 2011
So, what’s a micronaut? Such a girly question to begin with. So I went to trusty Wikipedia (close your ears, boys) and found out. Suddenly the art makes much more sense.
Graham Percy was a Kiwi who trained in Auckland as a graphic artist, and then moved to London where he remained for the rest of his life. He illustrated children’s books, and his work also frequently appeared in School Journals in New Zealand. His drawings are unpredictable, inventive, humorous and clever. Even if you have never heard of him it’s worth browsing this delightful book. It might even inspire your own art work, who knows?
