Building the All-Round Man Campaign

Scots College is internationally renowned for providing a holistic education. Our aim is to offer every student the opportunity to fulfil their potential, and excel both in and out of the classroom. As a result, each boy is able to become an all-round man with a life-long commitment to learning within the environment in which they can achieve this.

The College is now about to embark on two projects that will take the delivery of this educational experience to another level. These projects complete the all-round offering at Scots by enabling students to explore all facets of opportunity within leading-edge facilities and educational courses. Whatever their passion, talent, interest, or aspiration, Scots’ boys will have the means to explore and discover these in the best facilities possible.

Fielding Dreams

Cricket and rugby have always been part of the Scots culture. Recently the College has enjoyed success with our cricketers touring internationally and winning the right to represent the Wellington region in the national finals. Our rugby players too have been exceptional. Our first XV team, having achieved promotion to the Premier league, has seen a historic victory already this season.

However, there is an increasingly urgent necessity to improve the current sports facilities to ensure that this success continues and as many boys as possible can be accommodated and are encouraged to get involved in sports.

As Wellington weather is notoriously unpredictable, invariably sports practice sessions are disrupted. PE classes also end up indoors and on occasion there can be as many as five classes in the current gymnasium that was built in 1979. The College playing field suffers in heavy rainfall and there is an essential requirement to improve drainage and replace the current metal outdoor cricket nets.

Creative Spaces

Today’s technology innovations are determining how and what new subjects are taught. Laptop classes and Robotics are now taught from Prep School, and graphics are using the latest equipment and producing some truly professional work. Art, music and more recently drama are popular subjects but we are currently not able to reach and provide for every student at the College.

We are teaching creative subjects in a traditional setting. The environment in which these subjects are currently taught is disjointed, with classrooms disseminated across the College campus and this subject area is most restricted in terms of its accommodation.

The implementation of the IB curriculum has allowed us to reflect on the lack of adequate facilities that will enable us to tap in into the creative and artistic talents of our students. We have recognised that there is a real need for a purpose built facility.

From the Headmaster & Principal

We take much pride in the achievements of our Old Boys. They are positive role models, citizens and leaders of our nation. To excel our students need excellent facilities.

I thank you for your interest in the College and thank you in advance for supporting our students to become the All Round Man.
Graeme Yule (Headmaster)

Every student at Scots College enters our doors with talents and it is our role and responsibility to provide an environment where these talents can be identified and then nurtured.
Peter Cassie (Principal, Prep School)
