2021 Middle School Scholarship Applications

Applications for the 2021 Scots College Middle School Scholarships are now open. To apply please read the information below and fill in the form linked at the bottom of the page.

Applications close 5pm Friday 29 May

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
At the closing of applications and once applications have been reviewed, students will be shortlisted and may be invited for an interview with the Middle School Principal (all applicants will be informed of the decision regarding the scholarship at a later date).

All applicants are required to attend a scholarship examination day at the College on Wednesday 3 June.
The subjects for the examination are Logic/reasoning, comprehension and processing, creative writing and critical analysis. The scholarship examination will be overseen and monitored by the Principal of the Middle School, and the results and his recommendations reported to the Headmaster and Board. The examination scripts and the marks awarded will be the property of Scots College. Marks will not be forwarded to the candidates.

The value of the scholarships is a proportion of the tuition fee. The tenure of the scholarship is closely monitored, with a review at the end of each academic year. Should a student not be meeting their obligations, the scholarship could be withdrawn. 

The Board reserves the right not to award any or all of the scholarships offered.

A one off payment of $25 is required to complete your scholarship application. This is per candidate not per scholarship. Details to make payment are included in your form submission confirmation.

External Applications: All external applications are required to complete an enrolment application as part of their scholarship application through the form accessed below. Should your scholarship application not be successful you will have the option to continue or withdraw your application for enrolment.

Year 7:
  • Academic Scholarship:
    May be awarded to a student entering Year 7. Candidates who do exceptionally well in the examinations will be shortlisted to attend an interview.
  • Music Scholarship:
    May be awarded to a student entering Year 7 after an audition with the Music Teacher and an interview with the Principal of the Middle School. Candidates will need to show proficiency in one or more instruments. Successful candidates will be expected to perform at Grade 3 level or better on their principal instrument. They will also be expected to take an active part in performance music at the College.
  • General Excellence Scholarship:
    May be awarded to a student entering Year 7 who displays all-round excellence in academic, sport and/or cultural fields.
Year 9:
  • Academic Scholarship:
    May be awarded to a student entering Year 9. Candidates who do exceptionally well in the examinations will be shortlisted to attend an interview.
  • Music Scholarship:
    May be awarded to a student entering Year 9 after an audition with the Head of Music and an interview with the Principal of the Middle School. Candidates will need to show proficiency in one or more instruments. Successful candidates will be expected to perform at Grade 5 level or better on their principal instrument. They will also be expected to take an active part in performance music at the College.
  • General Excellence Scholarship:
    May be awarded to a student entering Year 9 who displays all-round excellence in academic, sport and/or cultural fields.
  • Scots Collegians Association:
    May be awarded to a student entering Year 9 who is a good all round student. Preference is given to the son of a Scots Collegian (former student).
  • Boarding:
    May be awarded to a student entering Year 9 and who wishes to Board at the College.
Pipe Band:
  • Pipe Band Scholarship:
    May be awarded to a student entering Years 9 or 10 who displays outstanding piping or drumming ability. External applicants who are short-listed will be required to audition. Internal applicants may be required to audition and Scots College Pipe Band staff will be contacted regarding current band members. Any successful candidate will be required to maintain a standard of performance appropriate to their age and experience. They will also be required to show the qualities of character and leadership which will reflect credit on Scots College and the Pipe Band in particular. Awardees will be required to prove their continuing development by sitting Royal New Zealand Pipe Bands’ Association College of Piping or Drumming Certificates (elementary to advanced) each year.
