August 2010 update
During the June/July school holidays, the demolition phase of building the new Creative and Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) began. Contractors officially started on site on Monday 28 June. And despite an extremely wet second week, the building project is currently running to schedule.
The construction team has now completed the shoring up (bracing) of the Leuchars Wing. Sheet piling can now be seen from Monorgan Road. This shoring is temporary and will be removed once the basement and lower ground construction is complete. Excavation has commenced with the college requesting screw piles over driven piles as not to impact on the neighbours through noise from the installation process.
Over the next month, the construction team will complete the demolition and excavation. Construction will commence in the basement and lower ground areas. Visually this will have little impact for any spectators, but come September/October the building will start to come ‘out of the ground.’
Garth Palmer and Barry Conroy from Impact Project Management assigned to the build, say this is an extremely exciting project for both the College and the community. “We feel privileged to be part of Scots College’s vision for modern education of the highest quality” and remember, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and this is a great journey to be on…
