Creative and Performing Arts Centre

The Creative and Performing Arts Centre will provide specialist areas for Music, Drama and Art, and additional space for Creative Technology so it can be included in the wider College curriculum. It not only brings the various classrooms across the campus into one building shared by all the boys at the College, we have also taken the opportunity to accommodate these subject areas in the most innovative, pioneering way available, so that our young men can be educated in a state-of-the-art environment and be ready for the society we now live in.

The new facility will open in Term 1, 2012 and will enable the creative talents of our students to be enhanced and maximised. By housing the performing and visual arts departments in a specifically designed facility that will allow for interdisciplinary teaching, we will provide opportunities for students to create, perform, produce and showcase their many talents in an artistic and creative manner, where imagination is encouraged. It will inspire students to realise that their ideas can become reality where the completed projects will be visually represented through the performance or artistic medium. Collaboration between departments will produce a stunning end result and equip our students for future innovation ensuring their creative talents are fully developed and providing the much needed confidence to believe in themselves.

This purpose-built centre will have three floors offering the complete package for arts. Each classroom and practice area will be equipped with the latest, cutting edge technology. It will have the latest interactive and sound technology, computer pods for graphics and robotics, seven acoustically designed and sound proof practice rooms, a designated rehearsal studio and facilities for film and animation production as well as 3D printing.

The environment in which Scots’ boys can learn, explore and realise their creative potential will be second to none. The Centre will complete the comprehensive offering of an enviable teaching experience and education across all areas of the College with depth and contemporary relevance of subjects, along with the way these are learned.

"It’s fantastic to know that the College is continuing to support the further development of the creative and performing arts as it firmly puts the creative capital of our country in the hands of the students of New Zealand. I fully support the proposed intention to build a Creative and Performing Arts Centre and I hope you can get behind this endeavour also and we'll see it all get built in the near future"

"This is exactly the sort of thing I would've loved when I was young. There’s a lot of technical complication when making movies, especially with post production, sound, pictures, editing and sound mixing - it's a lot for anyone to get their heads around. Having a facility like this at Scots is a terrific idea. It is the future."

"We all know the power of mass communication. We know the internet and new media that’s coming out is making demands on everything that’s happening in our lives and opening up all sorts of employment opportunities for kids. The fact that Scots College can support kids with an interest and make them aware of what is possible and available to them when they make the transition from school life to career is definitely worth supporting. We want to support them along with the rest of the community I hope"
